American toy and entertainment giant Hasbro has confirmed it suffered a cyberattack, warning investors that it may take "several weeks" before the situation is fully resolved. The company, owner of major brands like Transformers and Dungeons & Dragons, detected the intrusion on 28 March, prompting it to take some of its systems offline.

In a legally required filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday, Hasbro stated it has implemented business continuity plans to maintain core operations. "We have taken swift action to protect our systems and data," said company spokesperson Andrea Snyder, reiterating the SEC disclosure to TechCrunch.

Ongoing Investigation and Operational Impact

The specific nature of the cyberattack, such as whether it is a ransomware incident, is not yet known. Hasbro has engaged cybersecurity professionals to assist with the investigation but noted it continues to "implement measures to secure its business operations," suggesting hackers may still be present within its network.

Parts of the Hasbro website were inaccessible as of Wednesday, displaying error messages stating the site was "currently undergoing maintenance." The company warned of potential delays as it runs interim measures to allow it to "take orders, ship product and conduct other key operations."

Context of Corporate Cyber Threats

This incident highlights the growing risk of cyberattacks against large corporations, which aim to steal data, extort money, and cause operational disruption with significant financial consequences. A 2025 cyberattack at Jaguar Land Rover stalled production lines for months, ultimately requiring a $1.5 billion bailout guarantee from the U.K. government to prevent collapse.

Hasbro's filing stated it is not yet known if any data was stolen, and the investigation is ongoing to determine the full scope of the breach. The company, one of America's longest-running toy makers with over 5,000 employees, holds intellectual property rights to major brands including Monopoly, My Little Pony, and Magic: The Gathering.
