Spotify has introduced Audiobook Charts for listeners in the United States and the United Kingdom, the streaming service announced on Friday. The new feature, updated weekly, ranks the most popular audiobooks overall and by genre, mirroring the company's existing charts for music and podcasts.

The charts are calculated using listener engagement and behaviour data on the platform. They are available to all users within the Spotify app's dedicated audiobooks section, accessible via the search function.

Latest investment in audiobook format

The launch represents Spotify's continued investment in the audiobook sector since it officially began supporting the format in 2022. Recent additions to its audiobook features include the "Page Match" tool, which syncs physical book pages with audio, and "Audiobook Recaps" for catching up on previous listening.

“As we’ve proven with Music and Podcasts Charts, when content is easier to access, discover, and enjoy, the demand grows,” said Duncan Bruce, Spotify’s Director of Audiobook Partnerships and Licensing. “We are delighted to now bring that to audiobooks, to help provide even more ways for users, publishers, and authors to discover what’s trending.”

Broader strategy beyond streaming

Spotify's move is not limited to digital audio. Earlier this month, the company announced a partnership with Bookshop.org to enable users in the US and UK to purchase physical books directly through the Spotify app, signalling a broader ambition in the publishing ecosystem.

The company states the charts will serve as a trusted discovery tool for listeners while creating new promotional opportunities for authors and the wider publishing industry to reach larger audiences.
