Former US President Donald Trump has called on Netflix to dismiss Susan Rice from its board of directors, warning the company to do so "or pay the consequences." The demand, made via his Truth Social platform on Saturday, follows critical comments Rice made about corporations appeasing Trump during a potential second term.

Rice, who served as National Security Advisor and UN Ambassador under President Barack Obama, made the remarks during an appearance on the "Stay Tuned with Preet Bharara" podcast. Her comments were highlighted by far-right activist Laura Loomer, prompting Trump's public response.

Trump's Ultimatum to Streaming Giant

In his post, Trump described Rice as a "racist, Trump Deranged" political hack with "no talent or skills." He questioned her compensation and role on the board, stating, "HER POWER IS GONE, AND WILL NEVER BE BACK." The public ultimatum creates a significant reputational and political challenge for Netflix.

The streaming service is currently attempting to execute a major acquisition of Warner Bros., a deal that would require approval from the US Department of Justice's antitrust division. Trump has previously commented on the potential merger, stating in December that Netflix's "very big market share" could make the deal "a problem."

Rice's Comments on Corporate Retribution

During the podcast interview published on Thursday, Rice was asked what concerned her most about the current political climate. She expressed worry about corporations that "take a knee to Trump," suggesting they could face retribution under a future Democratic administration.

"When companies make short-term decisions to curry favour with a particular administration, especially one that may not respect democratic norms, they need to consider the long-term consequences," Rice stated, according to a transcript of the interview.

Netflix's High-Stakes Deal and White House Stance

Netflix's co-CEO Ted Sarandos said last week that Trump had not asked for any political concessions related to the proposed Warner Bros. acquisition. The deal faces competition from Paramount, which is backed by Trump ally and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison.

A White House official told Business Insider that Trump "has great relationships with all parties in this potential transaction and remains neutral in this process with no preference for either bidder." This month, Trump said he "shouldn't be involved" in the deal and would defer to the Department of Justice.

Context and Potential Fallout

Susan Rice joined the Netflix board in 2018. Her criticism of the Trump administration is part of a broader pattern of commentary since leaving government service. The public demand from a former president and current candidate places Netflix in a difficult position, balancing corporate governance with intense political pressure during a critical business expansion.

The Department of Justice's review of the Warner Bros. acquisition is ongoing. Legal analysts suggest that Trump's public statements, while not legally binding, could influence the regulatory environment and market perceptions surrounding the high-profile deal.
