Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi has launched a suite of new products, headlined by the camera-focused Xiaomi 17 Ultra smartphone developed in partnership with German optics firm Leica. The announcements were made today ahead of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, marking a significant push into the European and UK markets.

The company also unveiled an ultra-slim power bank, a new smartwatch, wireless earbuds, an electric scooter, and a tracking tag compatible with both Apple and Google's location networks.

Flagship Phone with Professional Camera Ambitions

The centrepiece of the launch is the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, co-engineered with Leica. The device features a triple-camera system, with its main attraction being a 200-megapixel telephoto camera offering a variable optical zoom equivalent to 75mm-100mm (3.2x to 4.3x). It is joined by a 50-megapixel main sensor and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera.

Powering the device is Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, also found in Samsung's recent Galaxy S26 series. The phone boasts a substantial 6,000 mAh battery (6,800 mAh in China), supports 90W wired charging, and features Xiaomi's 50W Hypercharge wireless technology.

Special Edition and Photography Kits

To commemorate Leica's 100th anniversary, Xiaomi is releasing a special edition model with a durable aluminium-alloy body, a nickel-anodized finish, and a rotating ring that mimics a physical camera's zoom control. This edition includes a "Leica Essential mode" with filters that replicate the look of photos from classic Leica M9 and M3 cameras.

Further enhancing its photography credentials, Xiaomi introduced two snap-on accessories: the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Photography Kit (€99.99) with Bluetooth connectivity and shutter buttons, and the Pro version (€199.99). The Pro kit features a leather finish, a detachable shutter button, zoom control, and includes a 2,000 mAh battery, connecting via USB-C.

Pricing and Broader Product Portfolio

The standard Xiaomi 17 starts at €999, while the 17 Ultra begins at €1,499. The special Leica edition, with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, is priced at €1,999.

Beyond smartphones, the launch included the Xiaomi Watch 5 (€299.99) with a six-day battery life and 60-second health reports, and the Redmi Buds 8 Pro (€69.90) with active noise cancellation. For mobility, the Electric Scooter 6 Ultra offers a 75km range, with prices starting at €329.99.

Accessories and Market Strategy

Notable for its cross-platform compatibility, the new Xiaomi Tag tracking device works with both Apple's Find My and Google's Find My Device networks. A single tag costs €14.90, with a four-pack for €49.99.

The company also showcased an ultra-slim 5,000 mAh power bank, just 6mm thick, capable of 22.5W wired and 15W wireless charging. It features magnets for attaching to compatible phones like iPhones and is priced from €59.99.

This comprehensive launch underscores Xiaomi's strategy to compete directly with established global brands in the premium smartphone and consumer electronics segments, leveraging high-profile partnerships and a broad ecosystem of devices.
