Meta's AI application has experienced a significant surge in installations, climbing from 57th to 5th place on the U.S. App Store charts. This jump follows the Wednesday launch of the company's latest artificial intelligence model, Muse Spark, according to data from market intelligence firm Appfigures.

The new model represents Meta's first major release under Alexandr Wang, the head of Meta’s Superintelligence Labs. Wang was recruited from Scale AI last year to lead an overhaul of the social media giant's AI strategy, an effort that has already involved billions in talent acquisition and a $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI.

Technical Capabilities and Rollout

Meta describes Muse Spark as a "significant upgrade" over its previous Llama 4 models. The multimodal AI accepts input via voice, text, and images, and is designed to assist with complex reasoning in science and mathematics, provide health information, and enable visual coding for creating websites and mini-games from prompts.

The company also stated that Meta AI can launch multiple subagents to handle user queries simultaneously. The model is currently available on the web and via a dedicated mobile app, which received a visual redesign alongside the launch. A broader rollout to WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and Meta’s AI glasses is planned for the coming weeks.

Market Position and Growth Metrics

Despite its rapid ascent, the Meta AI app still trails behind leading AI chatbots in the rankings. OpenAI’s ChatGPT holds the number one position, followed by Anthropic’s Claude and Google’s Gemini.

Appfigures data indicates the Meta AI app has been installed 60.5 million times worldwide across iOS and Android platforms. A substantial 25 million of those downloads occurred in 2025 alone. Downloads have increased by 138% over the past five months compared to the app's first five months of availability.

India is now the top market for Meta AI downloads, followed by the United States, Brazil, Pakistan, and Mexico.

Executive Response and Future Context

Alexandr Wang highlighted the app's new ranking in a post on social media platform X earlier on Thursday, noting the app is "still growing." The launch of Muse Spark marks a critical step in Meta's ongoing campaign to compete with rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic in the advanced AI sector.
