Meta's AI app has rocketed to its highest-ever position on the US Apple App Store, driven by the launch of its new Muse Spark artificial intelligence model. According to data from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower, the app saw approximately 46,000 downloads on iOS in the US on Thursday, marking an 87% day-over-day increase.

As of Thursday evening, the app, which houses Meta's AI assistant and glasses functionality, ranked as the 6th most-downloaded free app in the US store. This represents a dramatic climb from its average rank of 65 over the preceding month. The surge in interest was not confined to the United States, with significant download spikes also recorded in Canada (51%), the UK (32%), France (27%), and Germany (25%).

Breaking a 90-Day Streak

Abe Yousef, a senior insights analyst at Sensor Tower, confirmed to Business Insider that prior to this surge, Meta's AI app had not broken into the top 10 of the US Apple App Store for more than 90 days. Its previous peak was the No. 2 spot, achieved around its launch on April 30, 2025. The company's latest AI model, Muse Spark, is the first product from the newly formed Meta Superintelligence Labs and is described by the tech giant as "the first step on our scaling ladder."

"Muse Spark is the first product of a ground-up overhaul of our AI efforts," Meta stated in an official release. The development follows billions in AI investment by Meta, including a notable $14 billion investment in Scale AI, which led to the recruitment of that company's co-founder, Alexandr Wang.

AI Apps Dominate the Charts

The event underscores the intensely competitive and fast-moving nature of the consumer generative AI market, where companies leverage new model releases for viral momentum. The market is currently led by OpenAI's ChatGPT, which recently reported having 900 million weekly users.

Meta's ascent demonstrates this trend, coming just a day after rival Anthropic's Claude app briefly claimed the top spot on the US App Store. Claude's surge followed public support after the Pentagon effectively blacklisted Anthropic. The current App Store rankings show AI's dominance: of the top six most-downloaded free apps, four are AI-related, with Google Gemini at 5th, Anthropic's Claude at 3rd, and Meta at 6th.

ChatGPT currently holds 2nd place, behind Augusta National's The Masters Tournament App, which offers exclusive coverage of the golf major. The first round of The Masters began on Thursday.
