Red Lobster has launched its annual Lobsterfest promotion with a refreshed menu, signalling a strategic shift under new leadership as the chain attempts a financial recovery. The limited-time event, running until the end of April, features new dishes like lobster pasta au gratin and crispy dragon teriyaki lobster alongside classic offerings.
The menu overhaul is a key part of CEO Damola Adamolekun's strategy to steer the company towards a targeted 2026 turnaround. Adamolekun, who took over in 2024, is moving the chain away from loss-leading promotions like the infamous Endless Shrimp and towards what the company calls "value-focused deals" and a leaner menu.
New Leadership, New Flavours
This year's Lobsterfest introduces Asian-inspired flavours, a departure from Red Lobster's traditional offerings. The crispy teriyaki lobster tail, coated in a sweet-and-spicy sauce, reflects Adamolekun's background; he previously led the Asian cuisine chain P.F. Chang's. "It's the kind of profile that feels intentional under Adamolekun," the review noted, describing the sauce as offering a "punch of flavour."
The chain is also emphasising more composed, premium dishes. The new lobster pasta au gratin combines Maine and langostino lobster with cavatappi pasta in a cheese sauce, baked with mozzarella. A lobster-topped baked potato, available as a premium side for an additional $8.49, features lobster meat and a creamy lobster beurre blanc sauce.
Customer Response and Financial Context
Early anecdotal evidence suggests the new direction is resonating with diners. A recent Friday lunch service saw a full dining room with families, couples, and solo diners. One couple cited the chain's "consistent" quality and feeling "slightly fancier compared to the average chain restaurant" as reasons for their visit.
This push for a comeback follows Red Lobster's 2024 bankruptcy filing. The company plans an extensive remodelling of its 545 locations, a project estimated to cost over $500,000 per restaurant and take four to five years to complete, according to The Los Angeles Times.
Menu Details and Pricing
The 2024 Lobsterfest menu includes both new and classic items. Prices range from $18.99 for the cheesy lobster dip to $57.98 for a surf-and-turf special featuring a Maine lobster tail and a 6-ounce filet mignon. The "Create-Your-Own Lobster Lover's Dream" combo costs $54.99 for two dishes or $64.99 for three.
Despite higher costs inherent to seafood, the review found the portion sizes generous, often providing leftovers, and considered the prices "pretty reasonable." A meal for one, including a premium side and drink, totalled $71.27 before tax and tip.
