Applications are now open for TechCrunch's Startup Battlefield 2026, the global competition for early-stage startups seeking investment and global exposure. The programme culminates at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco from 13–15 October, where 200 selected companies will present to top-tier investors and media.
The ultimate prize is a place among the Startup Battlefield Top 20, granting founders six minutes to pitch live on the Disrupt Main Stage. Selected companies receive dedicated pitch coaching and compete for a $100,000 equity-free prize and the Disrupt Cup.
Path to the Main Stage
Selection for the Top 20 is based on product videos and founder conviction, with judges seeking "meaningfully different, category-defining" ideas. The final list remains confidential until the event, with a shortlist maintained for last-minute changes. Isabelle Johannessen, Head of the Startup Battlefield Program, leads the global scouting effort across 99+ countries.
"Your product and founder videos are everything," the programme guidelines state. "They are the first impression and play the most significant role in identifying which companies are ready for the Disrupt Stage."
Benefits Beyond the Stage
Every company accepted into the 200-strong cohort receives significant benefits regardless of making the Top 20. This includes a fully funded demo booth at Disrupt, complimentary event passes, and access to a pre-event virtual programme with leading venture capitalists and operators.
All 200 companies present at Disrupt, either on the Main Stage or the Showcase Stage for Best in Industry. "The stage is one moment. But the access, exposure, and network you gain as part of the cohort extends far beyond it," the programme notes.
Long-Term Editorial and Network Access
Companies enter the TechCrunch editorial ecosystem, with opportunities for coverage across articles, the Build Mode podcast, and the Equity podcast. They also join the Startup Battlefield alumni community, a network of over 1,700 companies including Dropbox, Discord, and Cloudflare.
This alumni network has collectively raised $32 billion and seen over 250 exits. Alumni receive ongoing opportunities to pitch at TechCrunch events, discounted access, and exclusive partner perks.
Application Process and Advice
The application deadline is 27 May 2026. Applying is free, and unsuccessful applicants receive exclusive discounts on Disrupt tickets. The programme encourages founders to apply even if uncertain. "The founders who wait until they feel ready often wait too long," it advises.
Prospective applicants are directed to the Build Mode podcast for insights from past participants and investors. More information and applications can be found on the TechCrunch website.
