Newsletter platform Beehiiv has launched a native podcast hosting service, the company exclusively told TechCrunch. This strategic expansion allows creators to host, distribute, and monetise their podcasts directly within the Beehiiv ecosystem, positioning the company as a direct competitor to established platforms like Patreon and Substack.

The move enables users to publish episodes, share them with subscribers, and track detailed analytics from a single dashboard. Beehiiv co-founder and CEO Tyler Denk stated that podcasting was a logical evolution, citing the fundamental overlap between newsletters and podcasts as episodic, long-form content distributed to an owned audience.

Driven by Creator Demand

Denk explained that the company's roadmap is heavily influenced by its customers, who have consistently requested the ability to consolidate all their publishing tools. "We already have thousands of users with podcasts hosted elsewhere," Denk said, highlighting the natural fit for bringing the format in-house. This development builds upon Beehiiv's recent suite of creator-focused tools for website creation and analytics.

One key differentiator is Beehiiv's revenue model: the company does not take a cut of creators' earnings. Creators retain 100% of their revenue, a stark contrast to Substack, which takes a 10% cut from paid podcast subscriptions, and Patreon, which takes 8%.

Integrated Monetisation and Distribution

Creators can now bundle a podcast with an existing paid newsletter subscription, offering a private feed, exclusive episodes, and early access to paying subscribers. Alternatively, they can offer a free podcast. The platform supports MP3, M4A, and WAV files, provides automatic audio normalisation, and generates a full transcript for each episode to improve searchability.

Beehiiv will distribute podcasts to major platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Overcast, and Castro. Each episode also receives its own SEO-optimised webpage on Beehiiv, aiming to keep listeners within its platform rather than redirecting them to third-party services.

Analytics and Future Plans

The new podcast analytics are built to IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau) standards, offering creators detailed breakdowns by country, listening app, device, and operating system, alongside real-time data. Beehiiv also plans to expand its advertising network to serve dynamic ads within podcasts and is hiring a Head of Podcasts to oversee this initiative.

Several podcasts are joining the platform at launch, including 'Genshe with Avni Barman' and 'The Rebooting with Brian Morrissey'. Denk anticipates heavy adoption from existing users and noted that other notable podcasts have committed to launching on Beehiiv in the coming weeks.

Strategic Synergy and Growth

Denk emphasised the symbiotic relationship between newsletters and podcasts for audience growth. "Newsletters drive podcast downloads. Podcasts drive newsletter signups. The two reinforce each other," he said, arguing that Beehiiv solves the problem of creators managing these efforts across fragmented tools. The launch also targets podcasters looking to start a newsletter to own their audience and create more advertising real estate.

Founded in 2021, Beehiiv raised a $33 million Series B in April 2024 from investors Lightspeed Venture Partners and NEA. Denk recently reported that Q1 2026 was the company's best quarter ever, with $4.5 million in new Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR), over 10 billion emails sent, and more than 50,000 active users.
