TechCrunch has opened applications for its prestigious Startup Battlefield 200 programme, with submissions accepted until 27 May. The competition will culminate at the TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 conference in San Francisco, where selected founders will pitch to an audience of over 10,000 attendees, including leading venture capitalists and a global media audience.

The programme is targeted at early-stage, pre-Series A startups from any industry worldwide that are building "ambitious, innovative, and potentially category-defining products." A functional minimum viable product (MVP) and a clear demo are mandatory requirements for entry. While most participants are pre-Series A, some Series A companies may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

A Legacy of Launching Major Companies

The Startup Battlefield stage has served as a launchpad for now-household names in technology, including Dropbox, Discord, Fitbit, Trello, and Mint. Each year, thousands of startups apply for one of the 200 coveted spots. From that group, 20 finalists are chosen to pitch live on the Disrupt Stage, with only one company ultimately crowned champion.

TechCrunch emphasises that this is a competitive pitch event, not merely an exhibition. Participants receive live feedback from top VC judges. The editorial team, which selects the finalists, advises that founders who apply early gain a strategic advantage through more preparation time and increased visibility during the selection process.

Application Process and Related Events

Interested parties can either nominate a promising startup or apply directly. If a startup is nominated, the founders must still complete a full application to be considered. The application window closes on 27 May 2026.

In a separate announcement, TechCrunch confirmed that its StrictlyVC insider event will return to San Francisco on 30 April 2026. The event promises unfiltered fireside chats with industry leaders and VC insights, with tickets noted to be limited.

TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 itself is scheduled for later in the year, with an early-bird registration discount of up to $680 available for a limited time.
