Voice AI company ElevenLabs has launched a free iOS application, ElevenMusic, enabling users to create and discover AI-generated music. The app's quiet release on 1 April positions the firm to compete directly with established AI music platforms like Suno and Udio, signalling a strategic move beyond its core voice synthesis business.

ElevenMusic allows users to generate up to seven songs per day using natural language prompts, with controls for song length, lyrical content, and writing style. The app also features a discovery section where users can listen to, and remix, tracks created by others, with all generations counting toward the daily limit.

App Features and Subscription Model

ElevenMusic's interface includes live stations, pre-created albums, and daily mixes categorised by mood, such as Focus, Energy, and Relax. Mirroring mainstream streaming services, it offers top charts, trending lists, and new releases sections. A professional subscription tier, priced at $9.99 monthly or $95.90 annually, increases the generation limit to 500 tracks per month and provides over 500 GB of storage with full access to all musical styles.

Strategic Expansion Beyond Voice AI

The launch follows ElevenLabs' $500 million Series C funding round in February, which valued the company at $11 billion. Over recent months, the startup has aggressively expanded its creative AI portfolio, releasing its first commercially safe music generation model in August 2023 and partnering with top music producers on an AI-assisted album earlier this year.

"The company sees tools that use AI to create music and other mediums as a way to grow and protect itself from the eventual commoditization of AI audio models," the original report states. This diversification is further evidenced by its recent release of a broader creative suite for ad generation, voiceovers, translation, and video making.

Consumer Focus and Future Incentives

While known for B2B voice tools, ElevenLabs has existing consumer products like ElevenReader, an app where authors can earn royalties from AI-narrated books. The company is currently hiring for a consumer marketing role focused on its music vertical, suggesting potential future incentives, such as royalty schemes, to encourage user-generated content on the ElevenMusic platform.

The app's free entry point is a clear bid to rapidly acquire users in the competitive generative music space, leveraging the company's substantial financial backing and existing AI expertise to challenge the current market leaders.
